On 14 January 2014 School of Economics and Management in Public Administration in Bratislava organized a science methodology seminar titled Distance Learning in Selected Subjects at VŠEMvs: Experience and Development.

The aim of the seminar was to point to the potential use of modern teaching methods.
The first part of the seminar included presentations by:
- Doc. Ing. Anna Kachaňáková, CSc. (School of Economics and Management in Public Administration in Bratislava, Vice-Rector) focused on the role and place of distance learning in general and outlined a general framework which can serve as a starting point for more specific discussions.
- Prof. Ing. Judita Táncošová, CSc. emphasized the necessity to link traditional teaching methods with the distance method, and from the efficiency point of view concluded upon a desirable combination of traditional and innovative methods.
A further presentation focused on the topic of “Possibilities of using Moodle programme in teaching and examinations” in which Mgr. Ivan Majerčák and Mgr. Jozef Kirchmayer predominantly discussed the organizational and technical aspect of distance learning. Their discussion stemmed from experience gained in the course of using this method and used particular examples to point to possible technical and organizational issues.
The presentations were followed by a discussion devoted to presentations of the representatives of individual departments, who reported on the use of the distance method in their departments and presented both their positive and their negative experience gained throughout the use of the method.
The discussion included presentations of the following:

- PaedDr. J. Brtková – Institute of Foreign Languages,
- Ing. Ľ. Cibák, PhD., MBA – Department of Management Informatics,
- doc. PhDr. Z. Rózsa, PhD. – Department of Marketing,
- PaedDr. M. Kohuťár – Department of Small and Medium Entrepreneurship.
The presentations of individual department representatives was followed by a discussion which featured contributions from several participants, addressing further issues, ideas and experience. At large, the seminar can be considered a successful event, as it accomplished the aim determined and pointed to the broad horizon of options of using the distance method while teaching as well as examining. The Department of Management Informatics put forward an offer of organizing further training seminars designed to acquire the distance learning method skills.
