The BUEM research library was established on July 1st, 2007 by Act 183/2000 Coll. on libraries and the supplements of Act 27/1987 Coll. of the Slovak National Council on care of historical monuments and on the amendments and supplements of Act 68/1997 (Coll.) on Matica slovenská. Based on this resolution, the statute of the research library and the library regulations have been drafted.
The library produces various information statistics and other materials for the school’s academic employees. The library collections include general information publications predominantly dealing with EU topics, encyclopedias, textbooks and specialized resources focused on the school’s teaching and research topics, i.e. latest publications in regional development, management, public administration, law and accounting. Publications are purchased in multiple copies in order to enable on-site use and loans. Latest book news are regularly monitored and in cooperation with publishers a direct distribution of selected titles into the library collections in secured. The majority of library visitors and users are BUEM students and teachers. As of December 2012 the library has been using the DAWINCI system which represents a condition of admitting the publications of BUEM into the Central Register of Academic Publishing Activities of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The users have 5 PCs at their disposal including a free-of-charge internet access and xerox machine. The research library is the information base of the school, as well as a research, bibliographic, coordination and consultation department.
The library’s employees ensure the distribution of textbooks and study materials published for the students of BUEM, the distribution of all anthologies and proceedings published by BUEM, scientific journals Verejná správa a regionálny rozvoj (Public Administration and Regional Development) and of the student magazine ČasOpis. They also produce statistics for the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and for the union catalogue of the University Library in Bratislava. They build sub-libraries for the Information and Consultation Centres of BUEM. They also participate in the preparation of BA and MA examinations and in the examinations themselves, in conferences and other events organized by BUEM and prepare information resources and materials for digitalization.
